Sayward consists of two distinct governance areas.
The Sayward Valley encompasses most of the land mass of Sayward and is home to approximately 864 residents. The Sayward Valley is located in the Strathcona Regional District Area A. Electricity, propane, oil furnaces, woodstoves and satellite internet are the primary utilities.
The Village of Sayward is a small municipality near the ocean front with approximately 334 residents. Homes and businesses within the Village of Sayward are in close proximity to each other. The Village of Sayward has municipal water and sewer services with weekly garbage collection. Electricity, propane, oil furnaces, woodstoves, cellular phones, cellular internet and satellite internet are the primary utilities.
