Invitation To Nanwakolas Event – August 27

Location: Sayward, BC – Kelsey Bay log sort

Schedule:

10:30 a.m. – Welcome, speeches, and blessings of cultural items

12:00 p.m. – Lunch

1:00 p.m. – Launch of xwax’wana

1:00–4:30 p.m. – Community celebration, including opportunities to paddle in xwax’wana and guided site tours of the H’kusam Forest living poles

A day celebrating Indigenous forestry management and culture, hosted by the Nanwakolas Council in Sayward on Wednesday, August 27th. Highlights include viewing the living poles in H’kusam Forest, the blessing of large cultural cedar logs harvested by We Wai Kai, Wei Wai Kum, and K’omoks First Nations, the naming of a traditional xwax’wana carved in H’kusam Forest, a shared lunch, and an afternoon of cultural activities and community gathering.

Parking will be available, and shuttle buses will be arranged. We Wai Kai members who wish to travel by bus are asked to RSVP to Reception at 250-914-1890.

Sayward Valley Show and Shine – August 23

The annual show and shine is happening soon once again on August 23rd at 10am at the Sayward Valley Resort – 1546 Sayward Road. All vehicles are welcome. Sayward Fire Department will be hosting a bbq, there will be bingo at 12pm and a cruise to the Village of Sayward at 3pm. 

Live Music In The Village Gazebo – August 15

Thanks to a sponsorship by Neighbourhood Small Grants, the Village Gazebo will feature live music on Friday, August 15th from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. Come enjoy free music from local musicians and ice cream while it lasts.

Vacation Bible School – August 25 to 29

Sayward Christian Fellowship is hosting a Vacation Bible School for children 4 and up. This program is running from August 25 to 29, 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at 741 Gentry Road. Topics will include bible stories, missionary stories, crafts, games, songs and snacks. For more information, call Eve at 250.282.3269.

Habitat for Humanity ReStore (Campbell River) will be on-site to collect gently used household items.
