Heavy rain and strong winds are pounding parts of British Columbia, prompting warnings from Environment Canada.

Alerts for damaging winds have been issued for North Vancouver Island, including Sayward and Kelsey Bay.

Winds could reach up to 100 km/h on the west side of Vancouver Island, with gusts of 70 to 90 km/h elsewhere. However, conditions are expected to ease relatively quickly.

Heavy rainfall is forecast for with up to 50 to 70 mm of rain is expected through the night, raising the risk of flash flooding and water pooling on roads.
