10:30 a.m. – Welcome, speeches, and blessings of cultural items
12:00 p.m. – Lunch
1:00 p.m. – Launch of xwax’wana
1:00–4:30 p.m. – Community celebration, including opportunities to paddle in xwax’wana and guided site tours of the H’kusam Forest living poles
A day celebrating Indigenous forestry management and culture, hosted by the Nanwakolas Council in Sayward on Wednesday, August 27th. Highlights include viewing the living poles in H’kusam Forest, the blessing of large cultural cedar logs harvested by We Wai Kai, Wei Wai Kum, and K’omoks First Nations, the naming of a traditional xwax’wana carved in H’kusam Forest, a shared lunch, and an afternoon of cultural activities and community gathering.
Parking will be available, and shuttle buses will be arranged. We Wai Kai members who wish to travel by bus are asked to RSVP to Reception at 250-914-1890.
