Vancouver Island’s remote ski area is looking for experienced groomer operators to join its winter team
MOUNT CAIN, B.C. — Mount Cain is looking for experienced Snowcat Operators (Groomers) to join its team for the upcoming winter season.
The seasonal, part-time positions run from December through April, with wages ranging from $25 to $33.50 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
For those looking for a job that is anything but ordinary, Mount Cain says this could be an opportunity to work at one of the most unique ski areas in British Columbia — and one of the most remote.
A different kind of ski hill
Located on northern Vancouver Island, Mount Cain has long been known for its remote setting, backcountry character and old-school approach to skiing.
The mountain is predominantly open Saturday through Monday, with additional midweek operations during the holiday season and into the spring.
Snowcat operators can expect schedules to vary depending on snow conditions and operational requirements. Mount Cain says the schedule can be flexible and tailored to the individual operator where possible.
Experience is an asset
Mount Cain is particularly interested in applicants with experience operating older BR snowcat machines and a willingness to help maintain the equipment.
Previous experience grooming terrain around T-bar or drag lifts is also considered an advantage.
The position is therefore likely to appeal to someone with practical mechanical skills who enjoys working with older equipment and isn’t afraid to get their hands dirty.
Work — and ski — somewhere unique
Mount Cain isn’t presenting the opportunity as a typical resort job.
The ski area describes itself as a chance to step back in time and experience skiing the way it used to be, at Vancouver Island’s most remote lift-accessed ski area.
